My family and I went downtown walked around, and saw this beauty. I couldn't get out of the car since my daughter was crying (she didn't have a nap, the poor thing), but my wife snapped some quick pics. Just wanted to share it.

That dent in the nose cone makes me cringe. Gotta love the wing cars though...I'm lucky enough to know a guy that had a Superbird, and saw the car parked in my dad's driveway multiple times, and to have known another guy with a freshly restored Daytona...that by some fluke, he trusted me to drive.

Actually, I think the dent adds character. It means the car is actually being use (that being the purpose of a car), instead of being kept in a garage, pristine condition, never to see road.

Quarterlifecrisis Sr. (aka, my dad) has a 68 Charger, for the sake of time savings, it's pretty damn rare as far as 68 Chargers go, that's covered in door dings from all the time it spent as a daily driver. They show the car was driven...but drive me absolutely nuts. I can't say that a $100k plus car with a dent really speaks "character" to me, it more says, "well...this happened...we need to fix it."

I can understand the philosophy, I really do. Pristine old cars are eye catchers, they look amazing. That's why I won't buy one, because it'll hurt me when the car is damaged. But its also no fun to keep a car in a garage for all its life. I won't deny, when I saw the dents for the first time I cringed as well, and it is a bit sad. But, I am happy the car is being driven.

Yeah...the other side is it's nice having a driver. we've got a 68 Super Bee that is a driver by all definition. It's had a repaint a number of years ago, but it isn't overly nice. I DD'd the car for 3 weeks a couple years ago, more or less to prove its reliability.

I would love a older DD car, but I don't have the automotive knowledge to keep it running. Nor the technical know-how. I just truly appreciate the cars for the beautiful piece of art that it is. I also am a sucker for old muscle/pony cars with different color body panels. To me, that says "I may of been damaged, but I refuse to give up".

The nice thing about older stuff, is it's easier to troubleshoot when something goes wrong. The 2 things I found with this were someone had overfilled the transmission, and the carb needed some tweaking...which I let the old man deal with after I gave it back. Otherwise, it just needed a little visit from the ether bunny every morning.
Usually the different color body panels speak more about the owner than the car....but I get where you're going with that.
